Physical Education (PE)

Brickhill Primary School
At Brickhill Primary, we value Physical Education and it is something that we are proud to teach. We hope that we can inspire our children to attend extra curriculum sports clubs and also continue a love of sports and excercise as they head into secondary school, becoming lifelong PE students.

In Foundation Stage, physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives. Gross and fine motor experiences develop incrementally throughout early childhood, starting with sensory explorations and the development of a child’s strength, co-ordination and positional awareness through tummy time, crawling and play movement with both objects and adults. Physical Development – Development Matters

To support the teaching of PE in EYFS, our staff use Val Sabin to support the teaching of dance and gymnastic whilst also using Rising Stars materials to supplement this.

In Years 1 to 6, children receive 2 hours of Physical Education each week, as well as opportunities to run on our Daily Mile track throughout the week.

Pupils should develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They should be able to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations. National Curriculum

To support the teaching of PE, our staff use Rising Stars’ Champions Scheme of Work. There are two PE lessons each week, with most alternating between indoor and outdoor.

This year, Year 4 and 5 are working with Bee Creative to improve our dance provision. This where they will support the staff in teaching a blend between dance and technology.
